New Secretariat of United Nations (IPBES) will be located in Bonn
At a meeting in Panama, the international community decided that the UN Secretariat for the newly established Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, or IPBES for short, will be located in Bonn, Germany. This decision in favour of Bonn also presents an international acknowledgement of Germany’s continued and convincing commitment to the conservation of biological diversity.

Germany applies for Bonn to accommodate the Green Climate Fund
Today the German government will submit its application for Bonn to accommodate the headquarters of the Green Climate Fund (GCF). Germany's offer contains a broad package of services that will guarantee the optimal functioning of the Fund. The City of Bonn can provide the Fund with outstanding framework conditions and the Fund could begin its work without delay.

Klaus Töpfer Fellowship Programme
With funds from its advising assistance programme the Federal Environment Ministry supports the leadership training for participants from central and eastern Europe, central Asia and the Caucasus, who are working in nature conservation. On the occasion of the opening session on 8 March 2012 at the Federal Environment Ministry, Parliamentary State Secretary Ursula Heinen Esser welcomed the future leaders in nature conservation.

WHO European Centre for Environment and Health opened in Bonn
Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen and Federal Minister of Health Daniel Bahr joined WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab to open the WHO European Centre for Environment and Health in Bonn on 14 Februar 2012. Since 1 January 2012 the WHO European Centre for Environment and Health (ECEH) has been located entirely in the UN city of Bonn.

The UN has declared the "International Year of Sustainable Energy for All". UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon proclaimed the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All at the start of the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.
